Today, we’re sharing the video for “Living Fiction, the latest single Glasgow’s White. Despite its silken art-pop veneer, the track is an exercise in tightly wound funk tension; the accompanying stop-motion video aptly expresses this friction between gleaming surfaces and knotty undercurrents.

Speaking on the Ciaran Lyons-directed clip, the band had this to say:

“We were thrilled to work with Ciaran, one of the most exciting directors around just now, for Living Fiction. His concept based around falseness & superficiality complement the themes of the song, and his hyperreal visual style is like nothing we’d seen before. Everyone involved - from Josh & Neve in front of the camera to the crew behind it - did a brilliant job, and we’re delighted to share the video with you.”

Lyons added the following:

“The song is about fakeness, so the initial idea for the video was about the false, idealised image of ourselves we create when we pose for photographs. I wanted to make something that was all about people trying to look good, but coming across as non-real.

I’ve made quite a few videos using stop-motion photography. Often the technique is associated with a low-tech, grungy aesthetic, but I was interested in using it here to create a clean, glossy look in keeping with the concept of ‘perfection through fakeness’.

We also shot the band’s performance entirely using photographs, which was a first for me. There was something simultaneously exciting, but also nerve-wracking, about not having the option to review any footage - kind of like shooting on film.”
