After experiencing several arrests and an attack by Cossack militia while protesting in Sochi last week, Pussy Riot members Nadya Tolokonnikova and Masha Alekhina have once again found themselves in handcuffs. The Associated Press reports (via Billboard) that the punk protesters were among over 100 detained earlier today for “disturbing the peace” outside a Moscow courthouse. The protest was meant to show support for the May 6 Prisoners, over 200 activists that will each likely face two to four years in prison for coordinating an anti-Putin protest back on May 6, 2012.
In a related story, the AP also reports (via USA Today) that the footage that captured Pussy Riot’s assault from Russian Cossacks has warranted a response from government officials, with Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Kozak saying that the Cossack who whipped Tolokonnikova and Alekhina was being “held accoutnable” for his action, though no specifics were given. Kozak insisted however, that the women “came here with the purpose of provoking a conflict [with] local residents.”
