R.E.M. Unveils Video for “Mine Smell Like Honey”
Forthcoming Album Due March 8
Jan 31, 2011 R.E.M.
Alt-rockers and Hall-of-Famers R.E.M. don’t plan on touring in support of Collapse Into Now, their 15th studio record that’s slated for a March 8 release. But, they do plan on making videos. Lots of them.
“We’re doing a bunch of videos for this record and they’ll be non-standard; they won’t be like the videos you used to see on MTV,” bassist Mike Mills told Spinner in a recent interview.
And today, R.E.M. unveiled the first in the series of Collapse Into Now videos. “Mine Smell Like Honey” is an homage to silent-film acting legend Buster Keaton, shot in a stark black-and-white contrast with flashes of color and edited to give a running-in-slow-motion effect.
