Radiation City
Portland-based band Radiation City have signed to Polyvinyl, have announced a new album, and have shared its first single. Synesthetica is due out February 12, 2016. Below is the album’s widescreen and funkified first single, “Juicy.”
Radiation City previously released two full-lengths and an EP but almost came apart when the romantic relationship between the band’s founding couple, Cameron Spies and Lizzy Ellison, began to dissolve. Spies and Ellison decided the soldier on and write Synesthetica without the rest of the band. They then recorded the album in San Francisco with producer John Vanderslice (Spoon, Death Cab For Cutie) at his Tiny Telephone Studios. Not all of the original lineup stuck onboard, so they got the help of Unknown Mortal Orchestra’s Riley Geare on drums. They then finished the album in Portland with Jeremy Sherrer (Modest Mouse, Gossip) at Ice Cream Party. Along the way Spies and Ellison temporarily broke-up and called off their wedding. Despite all their drama, it seems to have been worth it: “Juicy” might be the strongest track we’ve heard yet from Radiation City.
Below is “Juicy” and the album’s tracklist and cover art. Also below are the band’s upcoming tour dates.
