Cheekface Share New Song “Growth Sux”

On Tour This Spring

Los Angeles-based indie rock trio Cheekface have shared a new song, “Growth Sux,” via a lyric video. Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.

Cheekface is vocalist/guitarist Greg Katz, bassist Amanda Tannen (formerly of stellastarr*), and drummer Mark “Echo” Edwards.

Katz had this to say about the song in the press release: “This is a little drum machine-driven hip-shaker about how growth sucks. The last year or so has been an era of forced ‘growth’ for me and Mandy, and it’s impossible to ignore that it sucks. It just fucking sucks. The urge to put my heels in the ground and try to stop it is strong. Rather than use some kind of metaphor, we figured, why not just say it?”

Katz adds: “Mandy said it reminded her of ‘that Phil Collins song about not knowing how to dance.’” Thus they stripped back the song and turned to a drum machine, a first for the band. “I guess the drum machine is giving indie sleaze a little bit, but please don’t hold that against us,” jokes Katz.

Cheekface surprise-released a new album, It’s Sorted, in March 2024. It was one of our Top 100 Albums of 2025.

In October the band released the new single “Flies,” which features Jeff Rosenstock on baritone saxophone and was one of our Songs of the Week.

Then in December they shared another new single, “Hard Mode,” and announced some 2025 tour dates. “Hard Mode” also landed on Songs of the Week.

It’s Sorted included “The Fringe,” a new song we posted in 2023 that was one of our Songs of the Week. When the album was released they shared a video for “Life in a Bag,” which also made our Songs of the Week list.

Cheekface’s previous album was 2022’s Too Much to Ask. It included the songs “Pledge Drive” and “We Need a Bigger Dumpster.”
