It’s something we’ve all assumed for awhile, nonetheless it was sad to hear today that Rilo Kiley have officially called it a day. The band—assumed to be on hiatus since 2007’s Under the Blacklight—have no plans to make music together again,” says guitarist Blake Sennett to Spinner. “I just felt like there was a lot of deception, disloyalty, greed and things I don’t really want to submit myself to,” adding, “it was probably immature and that came from a place of ego. I think that stuff will rear its head in anything you do, depending on the personnel you surround yourself with; things change overtime and people change and relationships change.”

Fans shouldn’t despair just yet. There may be one last hoorah for the group. Sennett goes on to add that the band has a good deal of unreleased tracks that may still see the light of day. “I think we’re going to try and release a two-disc set of 40 songs, or something.”

Sennett for one, hopes that—should the release see the light of day—it will be considered their official swan song. “I don’t think it was our best record by far,” he says of Under the Blacklight. “I think that it could have been our best but I think we were under pressure. There were some of our best songs on that record but some of our worst songs.”

In the meanwhile, the members of Rilo Kiley are keeping busy. Sennett’s project The Elected recently released, “Bury Me in My Rings.” Jenny Lewis performs as both a solo artist and as Jenny and Johnny, and bassist Pierre de Reeder performs as a solo act in addition to running Little Record Company.
