Run the Jewels
Run the Jewels (the duo of Killer Mike and El-P) have long been teasing their third album, the appropriately titled RTJ3 (aka Run the Jewels 3), but now they have officially announced the details of the album, including the release date, tracklist, and cover art. The album is due out in North America on January 13, 2017. It will be a self-released affair via RED Distribution. Internationally it’s due out a week later, on January 20, 2017. The duo have also shared a new song, “Legend Has It,” which you can stream below, followed by the album’s tracklist and cover art, as well as cover art for “Legend Has It” and the band’s upcoming tour dates.
RTJ3 features several notable special guests: Danny Brown, Tunde Adebimpe of TV on the Radio, Trina, and saxophonist Kamasi Washington. The album includes the previous shared “2100,” which featured Boots, and “Talk to Me.”
The album’s artwork was done in collaboration with photographer/designer Tim Saccenti. The band issued the following statement on the album cover: “For us, the RTJ1 hands were about ‘taking what’s yours’ - your world, your life, your attitude. The RTJ2 hands were wrapped in bandages, signifying injury and healing, which for us represented the growth in ideas and tone of that album. For RTJ3 the bandages are off, the chain is gone and the hands have been transformed into gold. For us this represents the idea that there is nothing to take that exists outside of yourself. You are the jewel.”
