Sade and frontwoman Helen Folasade Adu (aka Sade Adu) haven’t exactly been prolific since their 1980s heyday, releasing only two albums this century. It’s been eight years since their last album, 2010’s Soldier of Love, and seven years since we’ve heard any new music from them (which were bonus tracks from best-of album The Ultimate Collection). But now they have returned with a new song, “Flower of the Universe.”
It was written for the new film A Wrinkle in Time at the personal request of its director Ava DuVernay. The song surfaced late last night via an unofficial audio link that has since been taken down, but now an official lyric video for the song has been posted that features images from the movie. A Wrinkle in Time, which is based on Madeleine L’Engle’s beloved 1962 science fiction/fantasy novel, is due out this Friday and stars Oprah Winfrey, Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling, Storm Reid, Zach Galifianakis, and Chris Pine.
