Swedish duo Sally Shapiro (the project of producer Johan Agebjörn and an anonymous singer who goes under the name Sally Shapiro) have announced a new album, Ready to Live a Lie, and shared a new song, “The Other Days,” with a visualizer. Ready to Live a Lie is due out May 30 via Italians Do It Better. Below, check out the single, followed by the album details.

Agebjörn and Italians Do It Better co-founder Johnny Jewel mixed the album.

Agebjörn had this to say about the album and its title in a press release: “We live in the era of lies. We deceive ourselves, our partners, and those around us. On social media, we paint pictures of perfect lives, only to be fed falsehoods in return—by algorithms, newsfeeds, and politicians.”

Shapiro adds: “But perhaps, at times, we need these deceptions to get by. Maybe loneliness is somehow inescapable and we simply do our best to navigate life.”

Sally Shapiro announced in 2016 that they were putting an end to the project, but returned in 2022 with the LP Sad Cities. The Italo disco duo garnered acclaim and attention from music blogs with the release of their 2006 debut album, Disco Romance, and followed that up with two other albums, 2009’s My Guilty Pleasure and 2013’s Somewhere Else. In 2016 Sally Shapiro released what was promoted as one last single, “If You Ever Wanna Change Your Mind.”

“The Other Days” was released alongside an instrumental of the track and a remix of Sad Cities’ “Forget About You” by Johnny Jewel titled “Forget About You (Johnny Jewel Amnesia Rework).” “The Other Days” is a feel-good, dreamy track, and a sign that Sally Shapiro have still carried their nostalgia along with them over the years. They reproduce a sound you’re unlikely to hear outside of the 2000s, but one that’s missed dearly from the current music scene.

Revisit our 2009 interview with them.
