Philadelphia’s Shamir has announced he’s releasing his final solo album, Ten, and has shared its first single, “Neverwannago,” along with a self-produced music video. Ten is due out this spring via Kill Rock Stars, the exact release date is TBA. Watch the video below.
This is Shamir’s first release since his last album, Homo Anxietatem, in 2023. “Neverwannago” is written by Andrew Hamon (Like St. Joan), with a video directed by Matthew Ober and starring Shamir along with fellow musician August Nandé.
On this being his final solo release, in a press release, Shamir says: “I’ve done and said all I wanted to say. I never want to feel like I’m forcing my art.” The press release describes the album as “a love letter to friends who shaped Shamir’s life—10 songs written by those closest to him, unused demos, and castaways given a new life.”
The declaration of this being his final solo work leaves the opportunity for collaboration. Previously he has collaborated with the likes of Le Tigre, Courtney Barnett, Troye Sivan, Rina Sawayama, and Mac DeMarco to name a few. “Ten is not the sound of an artist burning out,” says the press release. “It is the sound of an artist setting himself free.”
