Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings
Successfully recovering from a recent cancer scare, soul-singing wonder woman Sharon Jones has announced her return alongside her band The Dap Kings. To celebrate, Jones has shared a new release date for her previously postponed album Give the People What They Want, which will now see the light of day next year on Jan. 14.
“The entire Daptone Family is overjoyed and inspired to see Sharon’s recovery,” says the band’s bassist and bandleader Bosco Mann in a press release. “Without a doubt, this album is the greatest thing we’ve ever recorded and I’ve been anxious for the world to hear it. Everything will culminate in February at the Beacon. That moment when Sharon walks out to join us on stage again is going to be insane.”
Returning to stage for the first time in over a year for a special performance at the Beacon Theater in New York City on Feb. 6, Jones has also shared an awesomely animated music video for their new song “Retreat!” showcasing Jones’ ability to fight the dark forces of evil with her amazing hip-shaking dance moves (plus flying piggy banks!).
