Yesterday Iceland’s Sigur Rós took part in an “Ask Me Anything” session on Reddit, answering fans’ various questions about the band, their work, and their upcoming tour. Responding from a studio in L.A., the group revealed that are currently working on the follow-up to last year’s Valtari, with plans to release the new LP later this year.
Jónsi Birgisson, Goggi Hólm, and Orri Dyrasson also announced the permanent departure of founding member and keyboardist Kjartan Sveinsson, writing, “Yes he has left the band. He said he spent half his life in the band and it was time to do something different. Kjartan has left yes but all on a good note. He is planning to compose on his own.”
Following the online Q&A the band went on to post a teaser for their upcoming tour, featuring a studio version of their new track “Brennisteinn,” which they debuted live last year.
