Cocteau Twins’ Simon Raymonde has revealed the formation of a brand new musical project called Snowbird. A collaboration between Raymonde and singer/songwriter Stephanie Dosen, the duo’s debut album moon is scheduled to come on Raymonde’s label Bella Union. The forthcoming LP will feature a few high-profile contributors including Radiohead’s Ed O’Brien and Phil Selway, Midlake’s Eric Pulido and McKenzie Smith, Lanterns on the Lake’s Paul Gregory.

In a press release Raymonde says of the new music that “it would be a little odd if it didn’t remind people of Cocteau Twins” and that he “wrote every piece of music at night, in semi-darkness so that the space didn’t feel like my living room. The moon was very important for the light it reflected.”

Of his relationship with Dosen, he explains, “Stephanie was the first singer I had worked with since Elizabeth [Fraser of Cocteau Twins] that I had a real musical empathy with. She could do anything.”

Ahead of the upcoming album’s release, Raymonde and Dosen have shared the first piece of music from the record, “Porcelain.” Click below to listen.

Besides all the music, it also feel like we’ve come to the friendliest place on earth. After church on Friday folks from our team spontaneously crossed the floor to meet Karen students. Fortunately for us, there is a whole English track in this 4-year Bible school, so many of them speak English more than passably.

I really enjoy the music. We had a really great conversation with the students, and would love to attend more events like this in the future
