Sleigh Bells (Alexis Krauss and Derek E. Miller) are releasing a new album, Bunky Becky Birthday Boy, on April 4 via Mom + Pop Music. Now they have shared its next single, “This Summer.” Listen below.
The band collectively had this to say about “This Summer” in a press release: “We joked around about writing our version of a summer song, but since it’s 2025 it had to have a twist. Not comparing us to these bands, but musically I think Derek mentioned The Cars and Ramones when he was working on the intro, verse and pre-chorus, and I was listening to The Shangri-Las a lot while messing around with melodies. RIP Mary Weiss, you are missed. Thank you to everyone who has been listening to these new tracks! Love, Alexis + Derek”
Previously the band shared the album’s first single, “Wanna Start a Band?” Then when the album was announced they released its second single, “Bunky Pop,” via a music video.
Of the album’s title, Miller had this to say in a previous press release: “‘Bunky Becky’ was a nickname for Alexis’ dog Riz, who passed away in December 2023. When she passed away, Alexis and I had been talking about writing an anthem for her. And then Alexis’ son Wilder was born, and he’s the birthday boy. Even though the title sounds a little ridiculous—and it’s totally okay to laugh at it—with a little bit of context, it’s actually life and death. We lost somebody that we love, and we gained somebody that we love.”
Bunky Becky Birthday Boy is the follow-up to 2021’s Texis, 2016’s Jessica Rabbit, and 2017’s mini-album/EP Kid Kruschev.
