Almost two decades since the release of their last album, the former members of ‘90s shoegaze outfit Slowdive have been tweeting a countdown that will inevitably conclude on Jan. 29. With the additional launch of an official Slowdive Twitter account and website, rumors are gathering that the band is reuniting.
In an interview with Exclaim last year frontman Neil Halstead admitted, “Everyone is up for doing it. It’s just a case of whether we would. The question is what is the point? Why would we do it? Because it’s kind of an exercise of nostalgia? But it would be nice to play together again. That part of it is really cool: getting up with those guys again. We were at school together, so it’s not just about music for us, it’s also about friendship as well. I guess it’s always in the cards. No one has said they wouldn’t do it.”
Formed in 1989, Slowdive released three albums and five EPs, becoming prime influences for the likes of artists of M83, Mogwai, and the Smashing Pumpkins. Stay tuned for the reveal and scroll down below to revisit some of the band’s musical highlights.
