Small Black have announced a new album, Best Blues, and shared the first single from it, “Boys Life.” Best Blues is due out October 16 via Jagjaguwar, is the band’s third full-length, and is the follow-up to 2013’s underrated Limits of Desire full-length and 2014’s Real People EP. The band spent a year recording the album and then enlisted the help of mixer Nicholas Vernhes (Deerhunter, The War on Drugs) to help them finish it.

Best Blues’ album cover is a photo vocalist Josh Kolenik found when sorting through his parents’ flood damaged Long Island house after Hurricane Sandy. The process of recovering the photos also informed the album, which is about loss. “I spent months trying to scan all these images and letters, most covered with ocean dirt, and in doing so discovered what people often find in their family’s past: that they are a hell of a lot like those who’d come before,” said Kolenik in a press release.

Check out “Boys Life” below, followed by the album’s tracklist and the band’s tour dates. Also feel free to read our 2013 interview with the band or our 2014 interview with them.
