Soccer Mommy (the project of Nashville native Sophie Allison) released her debut full-length album, Clean, back in March via Fat Possum. Now she has announced a new 7-inch and shared its B-side, a cover of the Bruce Springsteen classic “I’m On Fire” (from 1985’s Born in the U.S.A. album). The A-side is a new version of “Henry,” which is a song that originally appeared on Soccer Mommy’s 2016 collection For Young Hearts on Orchid Tapes. Check out the “I’m On Fire” cover below, followed by the 7-inch’s cover art and her upcoming tour dates.

“I’m On Fire” is a song Allison has been performing live for awhile. It’s also a song that’s been covered a lot of times, including studio covers by Chromatics, Bat For Lashes, Low, Electrelane, Johnny Cash, Twin Shadow, The Staves (produced by Justin Vernon), John Mayer, Waylon Jennings, Kenny Chesney, and many others, as well as live covers by Tori Amos, Tegan and Sara, and Lorde.

In a press release Allison had this to say about her version of the song: “I wanted to make a version of ‘I’m On Fire’ that connected with the sadness of the song. I think that doing a more stripped down version allowed me to make something that feels emotionally raw.”

Previously Soccer Mommy got some buzz last year with some singles and bedroom recordings (which were compiled on Collection). Clean was recorded in a studio with a full band and was produced by Gabe Wax (The War on Drugs, Deerhunter, Beirut) and mixed by Ali Chant (Perfume Genius, PJ Harvey).
