Sonic Youth Prep Archival Albums, Tour Film
Future of Band Still Unknown

Sonic Youth
While the future of the band is still in flux, Sonic Youth has prepared a handful of goodies for fans. Via a conversation with BBC Radio 5’s Sam Huxley, guitarist Lee Ranaldo (who recently put out an album of his own) announced that the band has been editing a tour film from 1986 and prepping a live album culled from a 1985 performance. They estimate that both will be available sometime in the next few months.
The band also hopes to put out a live album for each period of their career. “Sometimes we’ll listen back to [an album, after touring] and barely recognize the songs…because they’ve taken on a new character live,” says Ranaldo. “So we thought it would be really cool to find representative recordings from every period in our career, and make new releases that loosely correspond to different records, and let the audience see how the songs shifted or grew or expanded in a live context.”
