UK indie singer/songwriter Sophie Kilburn is back today with her third EP, Don’t Make Me Angry. Kilburn debuted in 2021 with her EP, My Room Made Public, and quickly followed the next year with her sophomore EP, Not Bitter, Just Bored. Her latest record builds upon the sharp pop rock hooks and raw diaristic songwriting of her first two EPs and also finds her pairing with producer Oli Deakin (CMAT, Liz Lawrence). Kilburn has been steadily rolling out the record over the past year with a series of new singles, “Body on the Inside,” “Still in the City,” and “Don’t Let Me Love Alone.” The full Don’t Make Me Angry EP is out today, alongside the record’s last track, “Hot Minute.”

Don’t Get Me Angry dips into shades of anthemic indie rock and breezy folk pop, beginning with a defiant tribute to bodily autonomy, “Body on the Inside,” and a punchy post-break-up sing-along, “Still in the City.” In contrast, “Don’t Let Me Love Alone” blooms from slow-burning acoustic grooves into a folk rock anthem laden with plaintive harmonies. Finally, “Hot Minute” delivers a hook-laden finale for the record with one of the EP’s catchiest choruses. At the core of it all is Kilburn’s skillful songwriting and Deakin’s production, steeping the entire record in propulsive live percussion, infectious melodies, shimmering synths, and well-honed pop sensibilities.

Kilburn says of the EP, “This project stemmed from a realisation I had in therapy sessions that everything makes me angry (laughs). I just felt so deflated that society gives you labels and does everything it can to make sure you conform to them. I felt incredibly lost as an artist until I started working with Oli, who gave me a new sense of freedom as a musician, giving me room to explore more live instrumentation with my sound. I am so proud of this project, it does feel like I’m giving myself permission to step up and not let my habitual insecurities get the better of me.I want people to be included, and music can be so inclusive. I want to make people feel something.”
