Spiritualized have at last announced the follow-up to 2008’s Songs in A&E. Sweet Heart Sweet Light will be released on Fat Possum in March of 2012. The record, the band’s seventh studio LP, was recorded over the past two years in Wales, Los Angeles, and Reykjavik, and also mixed for a year in Jason Pierce’s home.
Commenting on the recording in a press release, Pierce says, “When you make a record, it has to be the single most important thing in your world. This time around, I wanted to do something that encompassed all I love in rock ‘n’ roll music. It’s got everything from Brötzmann and Berry right through to Dennis and Brian Wilson. I’m obsessed with music and the way you put it together and I don’t believe there are any rules.”
This past weekend Spiritualized performed at the Other Voices festival in Ireland. The Guardian has videos of them performing two new songs from the album, “Hey Jane” can be found here and check out “So Long You Pretty Things” here.
