
St. Vincent Shares a Strange Cover of “The Golden Girls” Theme Song

St. Vincent (aka Annie Clark) has shared a cover of The Golden Girls theme song. Although, if Clark didn’t say it was a cover of the opening titles music to the beloved senior citizen ‘80s sitcom we wouldn’t have known it was one. Firstly, it’s all instrumental, so no “thank you for being a friend…your heart us true, you’re a pal and a confidant” lyrics. Secondly, musically it’s slow and sad and sounds very little like the original theme. Clark does describe her version as a “dirge,” which is supposed to be a mournful song or a lament for the dead.
