
Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks Announce New Album, “Wig Out at Jagbags”

Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks have announced the upcoming release of their new album Wig Out at Jagbags. The follow-up to the band’s 2011 record Mirror Traffic, the new LP will arrive Jan. 7 via Matador in the U.S. and Jan. 6 in the UK via Domino. Pre-orders of the album on Matador’s store will include a one-sided, strawberry red vinyl 7’’ featuring a non-album track called “Pick Up the Spare.”
According to a statement by Malkmus, “Wig Out at Jagbags is inspired by Cologne, Germany, Mark Von Schlegell, Rosemarie Trockel, Von Spar and Jan Lankisch, Can and Gas; Stephen-Malkmus-imagined Weezer/Chili Peppers, Sic Alps, UVA in the late 80’s, NYRB, Aroma Charlottenburg, inactivity, Jamming, Indie guys tring to sound Memphis, Flipper, Pete Townshend, Pavement, The Joggers, The NBA and home life in the 2010’s…”
Coinciding with the album’s announcement the band has shared a lyric video for the included track “Lariat.” Scroll down below to watch.
