Sub Pop Announces 30th Anniversary Festival with Beach House, Bob’s Burgers, and More
SPF30 is Partially Free and Also Features The Afghan Whigs, Wolf Parade, Pissed Jeans, Mass Gothic, Mudhoney, Loma, and Others
May 29, 2018 The Afghan Whigs
The iconic Seattle-based label Sub Pop is turning 30 this year and to honor the occasion they have announced SPF30, a partially free festival to take place in their hometown in August that includes various events, including a comedy one featuring the cast of Bob’s Burgers.
The main event is Saturday August 11, noon until 10 p.m., at Alki Beach in West Seattle. It’s a free festival featuring Beach House, Clipping, Kyle Craft, Fastbacks, Jo Passed, Loma, LVL UP, METZ, Moaning, Mudhoney, Shabazz Palaces, Wolf Parade, Caspar Babypants, The Not-Its, and The School of Rock West Seattle House Band. There will be food trucks, a beer garden, a record fair, and more (that stuff isn’t free of course).
The night before, Friday August 10, starting at 5 p.m., features a free outdoor concert at the Mural that includes performances by The Afghan Whigs, Mass Gothic, and Yuno. That event is presented by KEXP and Seattle Center.
Also on August 10 is an all-ages event featuring comedy from the cast of TV’s animated hit Bob’s Burgers, including H. Jon Benjamin, Eugene Mirman, Kristen Schaal, Larry Murphy, and John Roberts. That’s a ticketed event ($30) at the Moore Theater. Doors are at 7 p.m. and tickets go on sale here this Friday, June 1, at 10 a.m. Pacific time (with a presale May 30 at 1 a.m. Pacific, the presale code is LOSER30). Sub Pop has done the soundtracks for Bob’s Burgers. The Bob’s Burgers event will benefit Seattle’s YouthCare, which “works to end youth homelessness and to ensure that young people are valued for who they are and empowered to achieve their potential.”
Finally on August 11 Pissed Jeans will be playing an “unbelievably coincidental” 15th anniversary show at the Crocodile. This will be a ticketed event ($16), is 21 and over, and starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are available here.
A press release from Sub Pop states: “It is our hope that SPF30 and Sub Pop’s 30th Anniversary Weekend will serve as a super fun and sincere ‘thank you’ to our local and global music community for supporting Sub Pop and our artists for the past 30 years (and the next 30!). In addition to celebrating a dynamic, inspirational roster spanning three decades, we also wish to create a sense of uplifting togetherness where we not only listen to great music but we become better at listening to each other as well.”
Congrats to Sub Pop on 30 years of great music!
