Britpop originators and survivors Suede made a fantastic comeback in 2013 with the release of the excellent Bloodsports, which was their first new album in over a decade and was very well-received by critics. Let’s see if they can do it again. Brett Anderson and the band have announced a new studio album, Night Thoughts, due for release January 22, 2016. The album will also have an accompanying feature film directed by Roger Sargent. They have released a teaser for the album and a trailer for the film, both which can be watched below.

The album and film will be premiered at two shows at London’s Roundhouse and November 13 and 14, in which the band will play the new album in full while the film is projected behind them. The album was produced by Ed Buller, who has previously produced all of their albums except Head Music and A New Morning. It was recorded in London and Brussels and features a full string section. It includes the song “I Don’t Know How to Reach You,” which was debuted live back in March at a Teenage Cancer Trust charity show.

Sargent spoke about the film and the album in a press release, saying: “Suede and I have crossed paths a few times over the years. I sneaked onstage for their ‘93 Glastonbury show to get photos for NME…. More recently I was asked directly to do some of the photography for the last album. I was asked to pitch an idea for this film project…. I really had no idea what they were wanting or expecting so I tried to write in the least self-conscious way possible. The record deals with a lot of familial themes - life, death, love, anguish and despair; themes that are expanded upon in its visual companion, providing a study of how those elements affect the human psyche. It resonated with me for many reasons, not least because my mother passed away a few days after I started writing a story for the film. The film starts with a man drowning in the waters of a deserted beach at night, as he fights for life, his mind plays out the events that lead him to be there.”

Below is the tracklist for Night Thoughts, followed by the album’s teaser trailer and the film’s trailer. Above is the album cover. Also read our 2013 interview with Suede’s Brett Anderson.
