Sufjan Stevens released his acclaimed album Carrie & Lowell in 2015 and earlier this year he released a corresponding live album and concert film, Carrie & Lowell Live. Last Friday Stevens released a Carrie & Lowell mixtape entitled The Greatest Gift, via Asthmatic Kitty. We took a break from posting news over the Thanksgiving long weekend, but on Thanksgiving Day Stevens shared a video for “The Greatest.” In case you missed it over the holiday, we thought we’d still post it now. Stevens directed the short video himself, which features a collage of religious leaders and others. Watch it below.

The Greatest Gift includes unreleased outtakes, remixes, and iPhone demos from the album and will be released on cassette, LP, and digital formats. Stevens previously shared the 7-minute new song from The Greatest Gift, “Wallowa Lake Monster.” The haunting and simply chill-inducing track was one of our Songs of the Week. Then he shared an iPhone demo of Carrie & Lowell‘s “John My Beloved,” with Stevens’ signature vocals coming through loud and clear despite the recording method.

A portion of the proceeds from The Greatest Gift will be donated to Cancer Community Support, which a press release says “is dedicated to ensuring that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action, and sustained by community.”

Stevens also recently teamed up with Nico Muhly, Bryce Dessner (of The National), and James McAlister for a new collaborative album about space, Planetarium, which came out back in June via 4AD.

Stevens also has two new songs in Call Me By Your Name, a new gay romance film directed by Luca Guadagnino that stars Armie Hammer and Timothée Chalamet and just came out.
