Beloved Scottish veterans Teenage Fanclub have announced some U.S. tour dates for 2019. They will be the band’s first American dates without founding member Gerald Love, who recently announced he was leaving the band. Fans in the UK will still have a chance to see Love play with the band in October and November, but then he’ll “turn in his Fanclub membership,” as a press release puts it. The dates are below and tickets go on sale this Friday, September 21, at 10 a.m. local time at the band’s website. Below is a tour announcement video.
Teenage Fanclub’s last album, Here, was released in 2016 via Merge, although this year they have been reissuing five of their earlier albums. Founding members Norman Blake and Raymond McGinley will remain in the band. Love was tired of the touring lifestyle, whereas the rest of the band felt it helped fuel their creativity, hence his departure.
In a press release, Blake had this to say about Love’s departure and the future of the band: “The three of us have spread the burden of songwriting over the years, so there will be a bit more work involved creatively. We don’t feel pressure to get somebody in as a songwriter to replace Gerry. Whatever happens, I know that we’ll create something that we’ll be happy to put our name behind.”
