Under the Radar favorites Telekinesis (the project of Seattle-based singer/songwriter/drummer Michael Benjamin Lerner) are back with a new full-length album and have shared its first single and an album trailer. Ad Infinitum, the band’s fourth album, is due out on September 18 via longtime label Merge. Seattle radio station KEXP premiered its single “In a Future World,” which you can also stream below. Also below is the album trailer.
Ad Infinitum doesn’t completely abandon the power-pop vibe of Telekinesis’ first three albums, but it’s certainly inspired by the kind of 1980s electro-pop and New Wave you might find on a classic John Hughes soundtrack. The album was recorded in Lerner’s basement home studio. “I went down to the basement,” Lerner says via a press release, “and started playing the same chords I always play… I just felt like I’d exhausted everything I knew. I was not excited at all. I just could not make another power-pop album.” Hence Lerner embraced synthesizers and drum machines for a fresh take on Telekinesis’ sound.
Telekinesis will also be going out on tour with Say Hi this October. Below check out “In a Future World,” followed by the album trailer and the tour dates.
