Britpop and Madchester survivors The Charlatans are releasing a new album, Different Days, on May 26 via BMG. The band have previously shared the album’s first single, “Plastic Machinery,” which features the legendary guitarist of The Smiths, Johnny Marr, along with Brian Jonestown Massacre frontman Anton Newcombe. Now The Charlatans have shared a video for the song. Filmmaker and photographer Ewen Spencer directed the video, which was shot in Barcelona and features the band, in particular frontman Tim Burgess, goofing around in the sunny European city. Watch it below, followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.
Burgess had this to say about the video in a press release: “It was great fun to make the video. Barcelona is such a beautiful city - the song is about finding beauty in uncertain times and we knew there’d be some sunshine there too.”
Different Days is The Charlatans’ thirteenth album. It was co-produced by Jim Spencer at the band’s studio in Cheshire, England. As well as Matt and Newcombe, the album also features Paul Weller, crime writer Ian Rankin, and writer/actress Sharon Horgan. Marr simply had this to say about the collaboration in a previous press release: “It was an honor to be asked, I love the boys.”
