The Flaming Lips Announce New Year’s Freakout #5

Ringing in 2012 With Yoko Ono

Nov 28, 2011 The Flaming Lips

On Black Friday last week The Flaming Lips announced that they will once again be honoring their annual New Year’s Eve celebration with their New Year’s Freakout #5 on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1, 2012 at the Bricktown Events Center in Oklahoma City. In addition to the band’s usual bag of confetti, balloons, and weird tricks, the shows are set to feature Yoko Ono and her Plastic Ono Band. Each show is priced at $100 per night or at the special package price of $150 for both nights. Tickets still seem to be on sale if you know you’ll be in the city on either one of those days. Frontman Wayne Coyne personally suggests using TicketStorm so as not to get ripped off by scalpers.

The Flaming Lips will perform classic John Lennon covers with Sean Lennon and other members of The Plastic Ono Band (including Nels Cline of Wilco/ Thurston Moore fame) and at midnight they will sing “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” with Yoko. I have more details, ticket option links, etc at [psychexfutureheart (dot)  wordpress (dot)  com   (backslash)  freakout5tickets]

Also, for the past few days the Plastic Ono Band have been recording new music with The Flaming Lips (presumably for the Lips’ December release): [.youtube - watch?v=feWDY__3VUA]

They’ve worked on three songs so far, one of which is possibly a holiday sequel to “Happy Xmas (War Is Over)” - details at [psychexfutureheart   (dot) wordpress (dot)  com (backslash)  2011/11/24/war-is-over]

In the meantime, The Flaming Lips have been streaming their prior Christmas recordings non-stop at since last weekend.  The mix includes their entire secret Christmas album from 2007, Atlas Eets Christmas and much more, some very rare.  More info at [psychexfutureheart   (dot)  wordpress (dot) com   (backslash)  2011/11/28/imagene-peise]
