The Lemon Twigs are a promising new brother duo (Brian and Michael D’Addario) from Long Island. Last October they released their debut album, Do Hollywood, on 4AD. The album was recorded in Los Angeles (hence its title) and was produced by Foxygen’s Jonathan Rado and partly mirrors Foxygen’s glorious retro ‘70s rock vibe. Now they have shared a video for “I Wanna Prove to You.” Nick Roney directed the hilarious clip, for which he took the brothers to his real-life grandparents’ house in snowy Utah. His grandparents have been married for 50 years and so Roney wanted to explore the concept of love, but over the course of the video the grandparents become a little too attached to the D’Addario brothers. Watch it below via Stereogum (who premiered it), followed by the band’s upcoming tour dates.
Roney offered a tongue-in-cheek statement on the video to Stereogum: “The song is about proving your love which is something I can’t really fathom because of how generally self-centered I am. But I figured my grandparents knew something about it because they had been married for 50-years, so their relationship seemed to make an appropriate backdrop for the video. Overall the experience was heartbreaking for me and I never would have imagined that things would have gone south as they did. Now that my wounds have sort of healed, I wish the Lemon Twigs and my grandparents the best and hold no ill-will against them. My aunt recently told me that the adoption process is underway, which I guess could make for a lively Thanksgiving.”
