The Mountain Goats
Twitter may have its downsides, but sometimes those limited-to-140-characters updates deliver some pretty enlightening stuff. Case in point: an exclusive Mountain Goats track that is nowhere to be found on upcoming record All Eternals Deck, slated for a March 29th release.
After hitting his 5,000 Twitter followers mark yesterday, Mountain Goats frontman John Darnielle tweeted: “5000 followers? This 100% arbitrary mark calls for something. Why don’t we do something ridiculous about it and give away a non-album song?” He then continued in a subsequent tweet: “This song was written last summer, I recorded piano and voice and then sent it to the amazing Leanne Zacharias for strings.”
The track, a wispy elegy titled “Tyler Lambert’s Grave,” can be downloaded here from host MediaFire. If Twitter’s your thing, you can follow Darnielle @mountain_goats—who knows what he’ll give away at 10,000 followers.
