“Our First 100 Days” is an anti-President Donald Trump project. The good folks behind the “30 Days, 30 Songs” anti-Trump campaign during the election have teamed up with Secretly Group for “Our First 100 Days.” They plan to release a new song every day during the first 100 days of Trump’s presidency. The latest addition is from The Mountain Goats and the song “Etruscans.” It’s a more stripped down affair, featuring just John Darnielle, rather than a full band cut. Listen below.
The Mountain Goats are releasing a new album, Goths, on May 19 via Merge. “Etruscans” is not found on Goths, but the album includes the recently shared song “Andrew Eldritch Is Moving Back to Leeds.”
“Our First 100 Days” launched on inauguration day with a new Angel Olsen song, “Fly on Your Wall.” Since then there have been songs by PWR BTTM (“Vacation”), Animal Collective’s Avey Tare (“Visit the Dojo,” a demo from his Avey Tare’s Slasher Flicks project), Jason Molina (the previously unreleased “Royko”), Women (“Group Transport Hall (Alternate Version)”), Suuns (“Native Tongue”), Tilman Robinson and Luke Howard (“Requiem for 2016”), Meat Wave (“Dogs At Night”), S. Carey (“Come to Me”), Entrance (“Not Gonna Say Your Name (A Cappella Mix)”), Joan of Arc (“Vampire E.R.”), Peter Silberman of The Antlers (covering The Flaming Lips’ “Feeling Yourself Disintegrate”), Toro Y Moi (“Omaha”), Bill Fay (“Shame”), Helado Negro (“Levantar Las Piernas (2012 Demo)”), Bowerbirds (“Sweet Hereafter”), Califone (“Comedy”), Ryley Walker (“The Great & Undecided (Alt Version)”), Hurray For the Riff Raff (“Everybody Knows”), Jessica Lea Mayfield (“The World Won’t Stop (Demo)”), Tim Heidecker (“Trump Talkin’ Nukes”), Adam Torres (“Dreamers in America”), Cross Record (“Sharpness”), Tara Jane O’Neil (“Ballad of El Goodo”), The Range (“Retune (Redone)”), DRINKS (“I Am a Miserable Pig”), A Place to Bury Strangers (“Everyone’s the Same”), Surfer Blood (“Bacon Frying”), Mind Over Mirrors (“Sky Colorer”), Dntel feat. Benoit Pioulard (“Fringes of Focus”), Will Johnson (“All Our Deeds (Sure Find Their Ways)”), Speedy Ortiz (“In My Way”), Here We Go Magic (“D”), EMA (“Stand With You (Song for Ghostship)”), Cherry Glazerr (“Hot Cheetos and Wine”), Flock of Dimes (the solo project of Wye Oak frontwoman Jenn Wasner, “Potential”), Wild Nothing (“Begin Again”), Julien Baker (“Good News (Piano Version)”), Twin Peaks with Juan Wauters (“Back Door”), Marissa Nadler (“Rosemary”), Jens Lekman (“Your Laugh”), and others.
It’s a subscription service with a minimum donation of $30 and the proceeds will benefit various organizations that support causes Trump is against: All Above All, Cosecha, Hoosier Action, People’s Climate Movement, and Southerners On New Ground. Other artists taking part in “Our First 100 Days” include: Mitski, Whitney, TORRES, Strand of Oaks, Will Oldham, Bully, How to Dress Well, and many more are involved. Find all the info here.
