The National’s Bryce Dessner Announces New Album, “Music for Wood and Strings”
Performed by Sō Percussion
Apr 10, 2015 Bryce Dessner
The National‘s Bryce Dessner has announced the release of a brand new compositional album titled Music for Wood and Strings. The follow-up to Dessner’s 2013 debut Aheym, which saw the musical artist team up with Grammy Award-winning ensemble The Kronos Quartet, the new full-length is performed by the Brooklyn-based quartet Sō Percussion. Throughout the album the ensemble utilize chordsticks, an original instrument co-designed in collaboration with Dessner that is, according to a press release, “a cross between a hammer dulcimer and an electric guitar.”
Music for Wood and Strings is due out May 19 on Brassland. Scroll down to watch a video of a studio performance of Dessner’s new work captured last year to get a sense of the album’s unique sound.
