The current print issue of Under the Radar is our Protest Issue. It features artists holding protest signs of their own making. One of those artists is Thurston Moore (ex-Sonic Youth of course) and his sign says “Free Chelsea Manning.” Manning is a United States Army private who was court marshaled in 2013 and sentenced to a 35 year jail sentence for violating the espionage act by leaking classified and sensitive materials to WikiLeaks (nearly three quarters of a million documents). The material exposed civilian deaths in Iraq due a U.S. helicopter attack, among many other things. She’s also a trans woman. Now Moore has announced that he’s releasing a new single on Cassette Store Day in support of Manning entitled “Chelsea’s Kiss.”
“Chelsea’s Kiss” will be backed by “Sad Saturday” and released October 8 via Blank Editions, with some proceeds going to the Chelsea Manning Support Network.
“Chelsea’s Kiss” was recorded by Moore, Ryan Sawyer, Deb Googe (of My Bloody Valentine), and James Sedwards (of Nøught). There will also be release party on October 8 at Lion Coffee + Records in London (where Moore is based these days).
