Under the Radar SXSW Party Today
Indoor Venue - Come In Out of the Rain
Mar 20, 2010
SXSW 2010
Under the Radar’s SXSW party is happening today (Saturday, March 20) at Emo’s East Annex (Klub Krucial) from noon to 6 PM, and is presented by JanSport. The venue is indoors, so you can escape the rain. Klub Krucial is directly next door to Emo’s Main Room. The full set times and info on each band is below.
The event marks Under the Radar’s sixth SXSW event in five years, which sells out every year. The party is all ages (bar w/ ID), open to the public - no SXSW Badges or RSVP required. At the party, Under the Radar will give attendees the chance to win a “Mira X” guitar, courtesy of PRS Guitars, as well a pair of tickets to Bonnaroo. Additional giveaways include free Under the Radar magazines, as well as goodies from JanSport and Top Shelf Comics and posters from Dorado Press.
Here’s the line-up and set times (click each artist name to learn more about each artist and to see some of their videos):
5:00 - 5:40 PM
Vivian Girls - Lo-fi high energy Brooklyn-based girl-group Vivian Girls take no prisoners, their work often recalling everything from Phil Spector girl groups to My Bloody Valentine. With them one thing’s for sure: it’s going to be fun, and boy it’s going to get loud.
4:05 - 4:40 PM
Sondre Lerche - Like the boy next door with the world’s best record collection, Norwegian singer/songwriter Sondre Lerche moves effortlessly though genres, sampling everything from big band lounge, to 1970s troubadours to straight up three-minutes-or-less rock.
3:15 - 3:45 PM
The Veils - Melodrama runs though The Veils’ discography, often playing like the backing track to the world’s coolest gothic speakeasy. The Veils are based in London and are fronted by New Zealand-born singer/songwriter Finn Andrews.
2:25 - 2:55 PM
Plants and Animals - Hailing from Montréal, Plants and Animals are heading to La La Land for their third album, creating darkly theatrical, guitar-driven epics.
1:35 - 2:05 PM
Avi Buffalo - They say youth is wasted on the young. They never met Avi Buffalo. Still not old enough to patronize most of the clubs they play, the Long Beach quartet craft sophisticated and sunny pop. The band’s self-titled debut album is due out on Sub Pop in April.
12:45 - 1:15 PM
Everything Everything - Everything Everything hail from Machchester, England, where, as their MySpace says they “like to play music for humans.” From catchy singles such as “Photoshop Hansome,” “MY KZ, UR BF” and “Suffragette Suffragette,” it appears they prefer those humans dancing.
12:00 - 12:25 PM
The Invisible - The Invisible are a London-based trio whose acclaimed self-titled debut album was nominated for the Mercury Prize last year.
