Warp Records Celebrates 20th Anniversary With Box Set
Its Extensive Beauty Will Make You Blush!
The always-pioneering electronic label Warp Records is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year with a box set and parties around the globe. Well, now we know everything about the Warp20 (Box Set) except for the exact tracklist.
Warp started out as the home to avant-garde musicians like Aphex Twin and Autechre, and this box set takes a visual cue from those groups’ cover artwork. The futuristic-looking set will include five CDs, five 10” records, and a 192-page booklet.
The Warp20 box will also include the following:
—The Warp20 (Chosen) double CD, a compilation of tracks from the label’s history, with 10 songs chosen by fans’ votes via the Warp website and 10 songs chosen by Warp co-founder Steve Beckett. It’ll contains a pull-out poster with memories and well-wishings from people who wrote on the site. Voting has closed, so you can see which 10 fan-chosen songs made the final cut. The list is right here.
—The Warp20 (Recreated) double CD, a compilation of Warp labelmates covering other Warp labelmates. It’ll include tracks by musicians like Autechre, Jamie Lidell, Maximo Park, Harmonic 313, Clark, Seefeel, Luke Vibert, and Plaid.
—The Warp20 (Elemental) CD, an hour-long piece from “Intro-Inspection” mash-up guru Osymyso, commissioned especially for this set, made up entirely assembled out of sampling Warp records.
—The Warp20 (Unheard) triple 10”, which collects rare and unreleased tracks from Autechre, Boards of Canada, Broadcast, Elektroids, and others. This will come in “uncoated card sleeves with debossed typography.” That’s a vinyl exclusive by the way.
—The Warp20 (Infinite) double 10”, a collection of locked-groove loops from Warp tracks. Trippy!
— Warp20 (1989-2009): The Complete Catalog, a 192-page book of cover artwork from every Warp release up until August 2009.
