Alicia Keys and the We Are Here Movement have spearheaded a new video in collaboration with Mic called “23 Ways You Could Be Killed If You Are Black in America.” It features various well known musicians and actors filmed in black & white listing off real life everyday actions that got African Americans shot by police, followed by the photo and name of the person who was killed. Those taking part also include: Beyoncé, Janelle Monáe, Bono, Chance the Rapper, Rihanna, A$AP Rocky, Maxwell, Pharrell, Common, Chris Rock, Swizz Beatz, Queen Latifah, Pink, Taraji P. Henson, Kevin Hart, Rosario Dawson, Lenny Kravitz, Zoë Kravitz, Jada Pinkett Smith, Jennifer Hudson, Maroon 5’s Adam Levine, and others

“Riding in your girlfriend’s car with a child in the back,” says Beyoncé in relation to the recently deceased Philando Castile, for example. Other examples include: “walking home with a friend,” “riding a commuter train,” “wearing a hoodie,” “walking away from police,” “missing a front license plate,” “sitting in your car before your bachelor party,” “walking up the stairwell of your apartment building,” “calling for help after an accident,” and “on the way to bible study.” It’s powerful stuff. Watch it below and find out more info here.
