I have been following her music for a long time now. When I think about a few of her songs, I like to understand what the lyrics mean in my own words. For example I think “Best Thing I Never Had” means that she was ready to give a man her all but realized it would have been a huge mistake. She stopped to realize that she desreved someone that loved her back.
She didn’t need put in effort if he wasn’t going to in return. He didn’t realize it was a two way street. He believed it all went his way. As soon as she left him, he wanted to change but by then it was too late. She was smart enough not to trust him.
If he was going to give back he should have while she was giving. She cut him off and now his confidence dropped like hard rocks. He felt on top and it was only because of her. He was selfish to think he didn’t need to love her the way she loved him.
