Watch Bon Iver Perform at a Kamala Harris and Tim Walz Rally in Wisconsin
“We’re here for the right reasons and we all know what we’re here for so we’re gonna do our thing, make this music, and make way for the people that we need to hear from.”

After the announcement of Kamala Harris’ running mate Tim Walz, the Minnesota governor, they hosted a rally together in Wisconsin. In the home state of Bon Iver (led by Justin Vernon), Vernon and his band performed a set in support of the campaign. Their set starts 17 minutes into the video below.
The band performed “Towers,” “Flume,” “6661,” and ended with a cover of “The Battle Cry of Freedom.” The closer is a patriotic ballad about preserving the Union, written by George Frederick Root during the Civil War. Prior to the song, Veron said this: “We’re gonna close out here with a nice old patriotic song that’s been rolling around my head these last months. I love this melody, I love y’all, I appreciate ya. We’re here for the right reasons and we all know what we’re here for so we’re gonna do our thing, make this music, and make way for the people that we need to hear from.”
Bon Iver are an outspoken group who do not shy away from advocating political engagement. Earlier in the year, the band stated their support for Wisconsin’s Nick Butler; performed at rallies and fundraisers in support of Bernie Sanders in 2016 and 2020; and promoted nonpartisan voter registration.
