Bon Iver (Justin Vernon and band) are releasing a new album, 22, A Million, on September 30 via Jagjaguwar. Previously we had been treated to extended versions the album’s first three tracks, “22 (OVER S∞∞N),” “10 d E A T h b R E a s T ⚄ ⚄,” and “33 ‘GOD’.” Bon Iver (Justin Vernon and band) are releasing a new album, 22, A Million, on September 30 via Jagjaguwar. Previously we had been treated to extended versions the album’s first three tracks, “22 (OVER S∞∞N),” “10 d E A T h b R E a s T ⚄ ⚄,” and “33 ‘GOD’.” Last night the band stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to perform a brand new song from the album, “8 (a circle).” “This guy’s always doing something amazing,” said Fallon when introducing the performance, and afterwards the host gushed, “I don’t know how you do it, I got a thousand questions.” The performance featured backing vocals from The Staves, Anaïs Mitchell, Gordi, and Arone Dyer of Buke & Gase. Watch below, followed by Bon Iver’s upcoming tour dates.
The album is the follow-up to 2011’s Bon Iver and was recorded and produced mainly at April Base Studios in Fall Creek, WI, with portions also recorded in London, England and just outside Lisbon, Portugal by Vernon and “a pack of trusted friends and collaborators both new and old.”
A press release describes the album as such: “22, A Million is part love letter, part final resting place of two decades of searching for self-understanding like a religion. And the inner-resolution of maybe never finding that understanding. The album’s 10 poly-fi recordings are a collection of sacred moments, love’s torment and salvation, contexts of intense memories, signs that you can pin meaning onto or disregard as coincidence. If Bon Iver built a habitat rooted in physical spaces, then 22, A Million is the letting go of that attachment to a place.”
