Britta Phillips (of Luna and Dean & Britta) released her excellent debut solo album, Luck or Magic, last year via Double Feature Records. It landed on our Top 100 Albums of 2016 list. Now she has shared a video for “Million Dollar Doll.” In it Phillips interacts with dancing CGI characters that look like something out of The Lawnmower Man. Alec Coiro directed the clip, which Phillips describes as “Blade Runner meets noir.” Watch it below, followed by her upcoming tour dates.

Coiro had this to say about the video in a press release: “‘Million Dollar Doll’ weaves a very compelling story. For the video, we wanted to stay true to the song’s narrative, but not retell it too literally. We stuck with the song’s theme of following and being followed, and added to that ... being under the constant gaze of digital surveillance. We also added an expression of the impulse to resist that gaze.”

Read our 2016 interview with Phillips on Luck or Magic (we also did a nice photo-shoot with her).

Luck or Magic contains five originals and five covers. Prior to the album’s release we were treated to the album’s first single, a cover of Evie Sands’ “One Fine Summer Morning.” Then we premiered the video for “One Fine Summer Morning,” and she shared a video for her cover of The Cars’ “Drive” and the audio for “Daydream” (as well as a video for “Daydream”).

Phillips is known for several things. She’s been a member of Luna since 1999 and then was in Dean & Britta with her husband and Luna bandmate Dean Wareham. Back in the ‘80s she was the singing voice of Jem in the cult cartoon Jem and the Holograms (recently made into a poorly received live action film Phillips had a cameo in). She has also dabbled in acting, including appearing in the 1988 film Satisfaction in which she was a member of the fictional band that also included Justine Bateman and Julia Roberts.
