Academy Award winning method actor Christian Bale has been known to transform his body for roles, losing 60 pounds for The Machinist and putting on 43 pounds for American Hustle, and he appears to have done it again for his new movie, Vice, in which he plays former Vice President Dick Cheney. As you can see in the first teaser trailer for the film, which has been shared today and is below, Bale has fully transformed himself into Cheney in a truly convincing manner, in terms of not only his look (no doubt also aided by makeup) but his voice. Starring opposite him is Sam Rockwell as former President George W. Bush, and while Rockwell (also an Oscar winner) doesn’t look much like Bush, he seems to have nailed Bush’s mannerisms.
The film also stars Amy Adams as Cheney’s wife, Lynne Cheney, Steve Carell as former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld, Bill Pullman as Nelson Rockefeller, Tyler Perry as Colin Powell, LisaGay Hamilton as Condolezza Rice, Alison Pill as Mary Cheney, Lily Rabe as Liz Cheney, Kirk Bovill as Henry Kissinger, Bill Camp as Gerald Ford, and Justin Kirk as Scooter Libby. Adam McKay wrote and directed the film. Up until his last film, he was mainly known for directing Will Ferrell comedies (both Anchorman films, Step Brothers, The Other Guys, etc.), but in 2015 he directed The Big Short, which was about the 2007-2008 financial crisis and also starred Bale and Carell, as well as Ryan Gosling and Brad Pitt. Ferrell and Pitt are among the producers of Vice. The movie is due out December 25 via Annapurna Pictures.
