It’s always strange when the favorite bands of your youth now have “classic albums” released a decade or more ago. Death Cab for Cutie’s Transatlanticism is now 12 years old (well, 11-and-a-half if you’re getting technical), and it’s their fourth album! Even though the band just released their eighth album, Kintsugi, their last to feature founding member Chris Walla, they have just put up on YouTube a new video of frontman Ben Gibbard performing Transatlanticim cut “Passenger Seat” in a partially candle-lit studio, backed only by Zac Rae on piano. They are labeling it an “acoustic version,” although the album version isn’t all that much more fleshed out (mainly Gibbard and a piano too). Still, it’s a nice nostalgic revisit to a “classic track” for us old school Death Cab fans.
