Vice President Joe Biden Also Talked

The National
Last night President Barack Obama delivered his eighth and final State of the Union address. At the White House there was a preshow event last night that was live streamed and can be watched below. EL VY (the project of The National’s frontman Matt Berninger and former Menomena member Brent Knopf, who also records as Ramona Falls) performed at the event, as did rapper Wale. Vice President Joe Biden also gave a talk.
BET’s Terrence J hosted the event, which opens with Biden. EL VY performs around the 22-minute mark and Wale shows up at the 49-minute point. The National has performed for Obama before and Wale has previously performed at the White House. EL VY did an acoustic set, with Knopf on piano and Berninger on vocals.
On Monday night EL VY appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert and in honor of Sunday’s passing of David Bowie the band closed out the show by covering Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.” The duo’s excellent debut album, Return to the Moon, is out now via 4AD. (And don’t forget that EL VY are on the cover of our current print issue.)
