Watch Emma Stone (as Billie Jean King) and Steve Carell in Trailer for “Battle of the Sexes”
True Tennis Drama Due Out September 22 via Fox Searchlight
May 16, 2017 Steve Carell
Billie Jean King was one of the big female tennis stars of the 1970s and in 1973 male tennis champion Bobby Riggs challenged her to a high profile tennis match. King is regarded as one of the greatest tennis players of all time, was seen as something as a feminist, and was outed as a lesbian in 1981. Riggs was a top male tennis player in the 1940s, a gambler, and a self-described male chauvinist. The two clashed in a match at the Houston Astrodome dubbed “the Battle of the Sexes.” Now a film also entitled Battle of the Sexes tells the story, with Emma Stone as King and Steve Carell as Riggs. Now the first trailer for the film has been shared. Watch it below.
Battle of the Sexes is due out September 22 via Fox Searchlight. The film reunites Carell with Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris, who directed him in Little Miss Sunshine, and direct here. Oscar winner Simon Beaufoy (Slumdog Millionaire) wrote the script. The film also stars Elisabeth Shue, Sarah Silverman, Alan Cumming, Andrea Riseborough, Eric Christian Olsen, Natalie Morales, Austin Stowell, Wallace Langham, Jessica McNamee, Mickey Sumner, and Bill Pullman. Also below is the film’s poster.
