Father John Misty (aka Josh Tillman) released his latest album, Pure Comedy, back in April via Sub Pop (it was Under the Radar‘s #1 Album of 2017 So Far in our midyear wrap up). Now he has shared a video for the album’s centerpiece song, the 13-minute long “Leaving LA.” Tillman co-directed the video with Grant James. The black & white clip simply features Tillman performing the song in a studio with a string section. Watch it below via Stereogum (who premiered it).

Tillman recently said he was almost done with his next album and that it would be due out in 2018. Also in another recent interview with the British music magazine Uncut Tillman shed some more light on his next album and also revealed some of its potential song titles. In the interview Tillman described the new album as “the real I Love You, Honeybear but without the cynicism,” referencing his 2015 album.

Father John Misty appeared on the cover of Under the Radar‘s recent Spring 2017 Issue.

Pure Comedy is the follow-up to Father John Misty’s excellent 2015-released sophomore album, I Love You, Honeybear. I Love You, Honeybear, was Under the Radar’s #1 album of 2015. Consequently, Father John Misty was on the cover of our Best of 2015 print issue and you can read that cover story article here.
