Watch Father John Misty Perform His Supposedly Rejected “A Star Is Born” Song
“Now imagine I’m a time traveling Bradley Cooper.”

At his concert in Minneapolis on Friday night Father John Misty (aka Josh Tillman) performed a new song during the encore he implied was rejected for use in last year’s hit film A Star Is Born. The show was professionally filmed and live streamed by the Minnesota Public Radio station The Current and can be watched below. Skip to around the 1:20:00 mark to watch him perform the song (we’ve set the embed to start then).
“I’m trying to remember my Star Is Born song,” Tillman says near the start of the song. Later he says in reference to the film’s star and director: “Now imagine I’m a time traveling Bradley Cooper. It works, right?” After the song Tillman adds: “Yeah, that would’ve sucked. I’ve seen that movie. There’s really no place in that movie for that song. Unless he was bombing at Coachella or something. The sequel, now we’re talking”
There’s no confirmation that the song was actually rejected for use in A Star Is Born, although Tillman has worked with the film’s star Lady Gaga before, on her 2016 album Joanne, and stylistically his music could have been a good fit for the film.
