The Polar Music Prize is an annual ceremony held in Sweden since 1992 that has been described as “the Noble Prize of Music.” Last night they honored American country icon Emmylou Harris. The show closed with Swedish musicians First Aid Kit, Loney Dear, Nina Persson (of The Cardigans and A Camp), and Anna Ternheim all teaming up to cover “Love Hurts,” a song Harris has performed over the years.
“Love Hurts” was written by Boudleaux Bryant and first recorded by The Everly Brothers in 1960. In 1975 hard rock band Nazareth had a hit with it. Emmylou Harris and Graham Parsons recorded a cover of it in 1973, which was included on Parsons’ posthumously released album Grievous Angel in 1974.
Check out the Swedish supergroup covering “Love Hurts” below, followed by the Harris and Parsons version. And check out a bunch of other videos from the Polar Music Prize here, including First Aid Kit performing their original song “Emmylou” in front of a teary Harrris.
