Grandaddy released a new album, Last Place, back in March via 30th Century Records, a label run by Danger Mouse. It’s their first album in over a decade. Now they have shared a video for “Brush with the Wild.” Aaron Beckum directed the clip, which stars actor/comedian Jonah Ray (The Nerdist, Mystery Science Theater 3000) as a heartbroken man who throws out all the things that remind him of his ex-girlfriend, only for them to come to life to lead him somewhere. Let’s just say that the twist ending references the album title. Watch it below via NPR (also read their interview with frontman Jason Lytle about the unexpected death of the band’s 41-year-old bassist Kevin Garcia, back in May).

Grandaddy have a special place with Under the Radar, as they were on the cover of our very first print magazine, way back in 2001. The article was in honor of their 2000-released masterpiece The Sophtware Slump. And while they perhaps never quite matched the heights of that album, they still had a very solid catalogue before and after that record. It’s been a long 11 years since the band’s last album, 2006’s Just Like the Fambly Cat.
