Last Friday Jack White (of The White Stripes, The Raconteurs, and The Dead Weather) released Jack White Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016, an album of rare and unreleased acoustic recordings stretching across his career. Last night White appeared on the British music show Later… With Jools Holland to perform an acoustic version of The White Stripes’ “We’re Gonna Be Friends,” from their 2001 album White Blood Cells. Watch video of it below. Skip to the 3:47 mark to see White’s performance, but before that there’s an interview with Led Zeppelin’s Jimmy Page about the reissue of Zeppelin’s BBC Sessions, with White in the background.
When the Acoustic Recordings was announced White shared a previously unreleased White Stripes song, “City Lights.” And earlier this week the song was given a surprise new video directed by French filmmaker Michel Gondry. Also last Friday night White stopped by The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and performed “Love Is the Truth” and “You’ve Got Her In Your Pocket.”
Jack White Acoustic Recordings 1998-2016 collects “26 acoustic songs from throughout White’s wide-ranging musical career, spanning album tracks, B-sides, remixes, alternate versions, and previously unreleased tracks.” The album is arranged in chronological order and is out now via Third Man/XL.
